In this cookie policy of AS LIDO (registration number 40003022654, address Ķengaraga iela 6A, Riga, LV-1063, hereinafter LIDO), we explain which cookies and similar technologies are used on the websites managed by LIDO (lido.lv, lidomaja.lv, e.lidopiegade.lv, app.lido.lv) and all their subdomains, as well as in mobile applications.

LIDO is not responsible for third-party cookie technologies. Third parties and their privacy policies are listed at the bottom of the website in the cookie preferences section.

What are cookies? Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer or other device when you visit LIDO websites.

Why does LIDO use cookies? Cookies are necessary to better serve website users. Cookies allow LIDO websites to remember your preferences when you visit the site, such as your preferred language, or to recognize your device. We use the information collected through cookies to improve the content and user experience of LIDO websites; cookies are also necessary for usage statistics. If you block cookies, some website features may not be available to you.

1.Types of cookies and data collected

1.1. Cookies can be classified based on their duration as follows:

  • session cookies – allow us to track a user’s actions during a single web browser session, i.e., from the moment the browser window is opened until it is closed, or up to 4 hours after the last page was viewed;
  • Persistent cookies – these are stored on the user’s device for the duration specified in the cookie and are activated every time the user visits the website from which the cookie was set.

1.2. Cookies can be classified according to their origin as follows:

  • First-party cookies – these come from the website you are visiting. Websites use these cookies to store information that is reused the next time you visit the site. From the perspective of personal data processing, the issuer of first-party cookies is the data controller (or any processor authorized by the controller) who manages the website in question;
  • third-party cookies – such as those from advertisements on other websites that appear on the website the user is visiting. From a personal data processing perspective, the party placing third-party cookies is the data controller, which is different from the administrator of the website being visited. We have no control over these cookies or how third parties use them. If you would like more information about how these cookies work, how to manage them, or how to delete them, you can visit the Your Online Choices website.

1.3. Data collected via cookies and their classification according to the general purpose of their use:

  • Essential cookies – necessary for navigating websites, using their features, and providing the services selected by the user. Without these cookies, it is not possible to provide the website and the services selected by the user.

The data stored by essential cookies depends on the specific cookie. Cookies typically store changes to the user’s privacy settings, information about which services the user wishes to use (i.e., service-related information), enable the user to log in to services (i.e., user name, etc. , detection of website abuse (i.e., information about it), distinguishing between users and bots, and collecting necessary information about website usage. This category also includes cookies used to display and process non-personalized advertisements;

  • Statistical cookies – collect information about how users interact with the website, such as which pages they visit most frequently and what error messages they receive from the website. For personalized analytics cookies, see the description of the last type of cookie. Some of the collected information is aggregated and anonymized. The purpose of these cookies is to improve the website’s performance;

Statistical cookies collect data on website traffic and usage (including which pages and page sections were viewed). For example, the following information is collected regarding the user’s device, user interaction, and experience with the website (e.g., error messages, etc.), as well as the user’s device IP address and location information. Analytics cookies cannot access IP addresses;

  • preference cookies – these cookies allow us to remember the user’s preferences (e.g., text size, other customizable features of the website) and characteristics (e.g., username, language, or country of residence) to provide a more personalized and convenient website experience;

Preference cookies, although distinct from essential cookies, are necessary for users to ensure that the service is displayed appropriately. The data stored depends on the specific cookie. Typically, technical information about the user’s device is collected to determine the appropriate video quality, and the user’s preferences (e.g., text size, other customizable website features) and characteristics (e.g., username, language, country of residence) are stored.

  • Personalized advertising cookies (including personalized analytics and tracking cookies) – these cookies enable the display of personalized ads to the user and allow for market research and analysis based on information gathered about the user’s behavior and interests. The data collected may be shared with advertising networks and advertising service providers.

Personalized advertising cookies and personalized analytics cookies collect information about a user’s website visits and usage (i.e., information about interests and behavior) in order to prioritize the display of ads that interest the user (information about the user’s website usage), information about ads that have already been displayed and “interactions” with them (i.e., whether a person has opened an ad/offer, etc.), data about the user’s device (to, for example, recognize the user during a new visit), etc. Advertising cookies also include social media cookies that are not linked to the User solely because the User wishes to share content.

1.4. LIDO uses the types of cookies described above for the following purposes:

  • for the operation of websites and the provision of services;
  • to improve the usability and accessibility of websites;
  • for displaying advertisements;
  • To improve website content / service quality – statistics and analytics cookies allow us to improve content based on view counts. This provides us with much-needed information about current areas of interest;
  • if necessary, personal data collected via cookies may be used as evidence in court or before other law enforcement authorities (for example, to demonstrate compliance with data protection procedures).

2. Legal basis for processing

2.1. LIDO processes personal data for the use of cookies either on the basis of consent, for the performance of a contract, or on the basis of legitimate interests.

2.2. Consent. LIDO requires users to consent to the use of cookies for personalized advertising.

2.3. Legal basis for processing (necessary for legitimate interests or the performance of a contract), depending on the type of cookie, if the processing is not based on consent:

  • Essential cookies – since essential cookies are necessary for the provision of the service and the service cannot be provided without them, consent is not required for the use of these cookies. Essential cookies are automatically enabled and cannot be disabled. Processing is based on either a legitimate interest or a contract, if the use of cookies is necessary for the performance of a contract between the user and a company belonging to the LIDO Group.
  • Statistical cookies – The use of statistical/analytical cookies is essential to the media company’s business in order to display content that interests the user and to ensure a good user experience. In the case of these cookies, processing is based on legitimate interest, and the user can disable them.
  • Preference cookies – although these cookies are not strictly necessary for the technical operation of the service, they are essential for providing the user with a tailored service and ensuring the initial user experience, given that these cookies typically store preferences such as language, video quality, page size, and so on. The use of preference cookies is based on a legitimate interest; the user may disable these cookies if they wish.
  • Personalized advertising cookies (including personalized analytics and tracking cookies) – processing is based either on the user’s consent or on legitimate interests. These cookies are not automatically enabled; the user must give consent to the use of cookies for personalized advertising. With the help of these cookies, the user is shown advertisements for products and services even when visiting other websites. The advertisements are tailored using information collected about the website visitor’s behavior and interests, such as how many times the user sees a specific advertisement. Advertising cookies help us measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns. Displaying third-party ads on web pages also helps cover the costs of maintaining the website, allowing users to visit the site without paying any registration or usage fees.
